31SL, Which Years

Hello all.

We're looking to possibly buy a used, or perhaps new Redwood.
We're looking for the following minimums and wonder what years they became available on this model.

8,000 Pound Axles
Disk Brakes
Full Paint
Dishwasher
Residential Fridge
Dual Pane Windows

Thanks for the help.

With exception of the residential fridge & 8k axles the rest was either standard or an option.
If looking at used RWs, check the classified section on this forum or the ROG forum, there a several there including mine.

You will probably find that most used units will have very few of those options, unless the original owner added them. All those features were optional on the early RWs and Dealers generally won't stock units with options.
Our '12 had everything except the Res Fridge, but we special ordered ours, same as we did with our current '16 MB. Almost the only way to get all the options you want.

I've ran an internet search for "ROG forum...Redwood" and got nothing related to Redwood RV outside of this site/forum. What is the base url for the other forum you've mentioned?

Thanks.

Thanks mhs4771.

Thanks for confirming what we suspected. We've noticed that most of the new 3401s we've found on dealer lots were equipped just about like all the others.

I think we're leaning toward buying a well loved one-owner 31SL rather than a new coach, this time. Now to decide on how much updating we want to take on and begin the search.

The axles and disc brakes can be taken care of with a visit to MORryde for their IS suspension and add the disc brakes. As for the Fridge, there are a few who have done the mod from RV Fridge to Res Fridge. Full body paint and dual pane windows would be pretty much cost prohibited for most.

you may need to sign in but its also a great way to find info see below in the classified section https://www.redwoodrvowners .com/inde...ist&Itemid=160

2013 Redwood 31SL in Anacortes, WA, for sale - $44,900 – by nonsmokers without pets. Exterior length is 34 ft, 4 inches, GVWR is 16,000 lbs. and the carrying capacity is a huge 4,070 lbs. Enhancements last year include solar panels, 4 AGM batteries, inverter, transfer switch, LEDs, and slide toppers. This year, 5 new G rated tires, new brakes, and MORyde suspension system were installed. Also available, 2017 Ram 3500 diesel long bed dually with 29,000 miles and compression (“Jake”) brakes, B&W Companion hitch for built-in pucks, and Backflip bed cover. With the solar panel upgrades, propane capable refrigerator, and large water(104g), gray(90g), and black(45g) tanks, we were able to spend long periods of time in the British Columbia provincial parks and U.S. parks since most of the campgrounds do not have hookups. That capability greatly increased our choices of campgrounds (reservations seldom necessary) and reduced costs. The automatic leveling system made setting up and moving as easy as pushing a button. The slide toppers eliminated the need to climb on the roof to clean the slides before every move. Many camping accessories are included with the trailer so it is ready for another trip to British Columbia or all the way to Alaska and back. After living and traveling on boats and the Redwood for almost two decades, we are ready to settle down in one place.

My 2014 Redwood - manufactured in May 2013, had all of those options except the residential fridge. That became available a few months later. If you look for a 2014 and above, at least all of those were available options.

If it helps, here was the order sheet for Nov 2012, and for 2016 to give you an idea of what was available.

Thanks for sharing the build sheets. They are more useful than brochures when speaking to an owner who ordered their Redwood.

Also good to know that the residential fridge was available in late 2014 builds.

I'm not sure the dishwasher is an option on the 31SL due to the size of the island. Our 2017 31SL has residential fridge, full body paint, and dual pane windows. It has 7K axles and I added the disk brakes. I wouldn't think you would need 8K axles on this size. Also the 2017 31SL has the retractable TV.

Thanks for adding your insight Tim and Patty. I also didn't know they were made in 2017.

I think they were a carry over from the 2016 model run. At some time in 2017 they changed to the new models, and the 31SL was no more.

My "2017" 31SL was one of the last few on the Dealer lots when I purchased it in Dec 2016. It was manufactured in January 2016. They were removed from the catalog in Sept 2016. I have double pane windows, full body paint, 7K axels, a residential fridge, and both ACs are heat pumps, which I highly recommend.

8K axels were not an option until 2018. In my case, the 7K axels are sufficient. My total axel weight is 12,040 lb....we're not a full timers. I have drum brakes which are no match for discs, but have been okay since I replaced the grease covered originals. I also upgraded the suspension to Morryde SRE 4000 w/heavy duty shackles and wet bolts. This has been a good compromise short of full blown IS. As a side note, the original suspension bushings were brass, not plastic as on some of the older models.

Slight correction my 2017 manufactured in April 2106 was ordered with all of the equipment showing on my signature. All factory options

You bet.
The brochures were never real accurate anyway. By the time they got published, Redwood would change things. Major changes occurred twice a year, once in the summer and once over the holiday shutdown. Minor changes occurred all the time. The brochures rarely captured the changes. Ironically, the website was even less accurate.

Also, for what it's worth, converting from a Norcold 1210 4 door rv frig to a Samsung RF 18 residential is a really easy swap. We did ours over two years ago and would never go back.

31SL Some with windows in rear, some not. ??

Thanks all.

Our search for our first 5th wheel continues, and it continues to be centered on the Redwood 31SL.

One thing now unclear to me is that some have two windows in the back and some have no windows in the back. What years or options drove this variation?

Our 2017 has two large windows across back and the TV is on a motorized mount that drops/stores the TV behind the fireplace in the cabinet. I think they changed from the wall mount TV to this arrangement in the mid 2016 model year.

Would this set up be the same in the RDL model? Where the TV drops behind the fireplace and there are windows? I like the RDL but I like the windows in the RL better.

Cheers
