Water / Holding tank monitors

looking for any feedback from anyone that has or is using the "Seelevel 2" tank monitoring system. I am interested in the 4 tank model 709-4 that mounts the sending strips to the outsides of the tanks. Thanks

Both, oem 《black tank mostly》 gauge is all over the place when it comes to being accurate. i do flush it after every dump. i can tell sometimes when something is hung up on the probe so these exterior probes seem to be a nice upgrade for under $200 . we are FT'rs

I haven't bothered to look at my gauges in 4 years, they are so inaccurate I don't know why they bothered to install them.
Also as fulltimers we've learned the sound when flushing the toilet when it needs to be dumped, typically we can go easily last 7 days on the black & dump the galley at the same time. The bath grey I leave open when connected or I'd being dumping it daily between laundry & showers, so I close it a day or two before dumping the others to get a good rinse after draining the black.
So far this has worked well enough that I wouldn't spend the $200 or lay on the ground taking the coroplast loose.

I do the same as the "travelin' texans". I keep the valves open on the greys until I'm getting near dumping the black, then let the greys fill to flush the evac pipe. You can usually hear when the black is getting full. I never rely on the black gauge and wouldn't invest any time, effort or money on different ones. When we empty the black, I back flush for 20-30 minutes+ and then also carry in a couple of pails of water and dump those down the toilet as well, just to aide in the evacuation of any other solids. When we're on the road, I keep a couple of gallons in the grey with chemicals, just to keep things sloshing around and aide in keeping them clean.

I do exactly the same as Woodman. Only tank sensor that has ever been accurate from day one is the fresh water tank. Have no interest in even trying to make the greys and black work, it's easier to tell by sound.

We have never relied on the monitors either. We have had both internal and external tank monitors and nether are that reliable especially on the black tank. Save yourself some money and just use them as they are. JMO

anybody still put Calgon in the tank? I bought some a few years ago and noticed I still haven't opened it.

Brad, I bought a box as well. I think since I started using our water softener, I think that eliminated the need for Calgon water softener. What do you think?

Jim, I would think so as they both accomplish the same thing. Do you use your softener all the time, or only when in areas known to have hard water? Just curious as I'm still looking at maybe doing one.

I still use the Calgon in the black tank once a year at the start of the season. Probably does nothing but it has worked all these years and hard to break a cycle. Box has lasted a few years.

I hook up our softener as part of the usual connections, it's connected to an extra filter & have both mounted in a milk crate.

With softener I never used the Calgon, but I do add a good healthy squirt of el cheapo dish soap when flushing the black tank.

Brad, I'm like Danny, using the softener is just a normal part of setting up. Our dishwasher doesn't work well at all unless the water is soft, hence why we use it all the time. The regeneration frequency is determined by the water hardness, and they included a bottle of hardness test strips to check.

I'm trying to see if I can permanent mount one in the MH. So far we have never really had an issue or noticed hard water in our travel region, but as we begin to travel more I can see where it might be a problem.

The disadvantage of mounting it is seven it's time to recharge you need to pump some water out & the best way I've found is to tip it/turn it over so you'd need quick connects.

I agree with Danny..........
The RV water softeners are a completely manual recharge operation. When adding salt for the recharge, you have to first dump out some of the water before adding the salt.

It's too bad that they don't make a small automatic unit, but, it would add a lot of unnecessary cost and weight. The "On The Go" RV softener that I use is relatively easy to use and recharge. It takes me about an hour once per month to recharge.

I normally have mine sitting on the a platform outside the trailer. You do need to make sure you put the softener and hoses inside the storage area of the trailer if you are in a cold, potentially freezing temperatures.

Well, I may need to re-think it a bit. I was just trying to avoid having it outside and add a setup step, but that may not work. Thanks for the info!
