Tucson Bound
When going through Texas how do you avoid traffic in Dallas on your way to Tucson?

I don't know which road you are coming through on but the best (my opinion) is interstate 20.... it's not the greatest as far as being smooth, especially pulling a Redwood. However, try not to go through at rush hour and you should be okay.

I totally agree with Lady E! Just get in the middle lane & go through that way they can go around on either side & you can get the finger from both sides.

Our recent trip out to Dallas was on I-20, man what a pounding, when we left we went up I 30 towards Memphis, much better road.

I'm not sure if you can avoid traffic no matter what route you take through DFW.
We transit DFW twice each winter on the way west and heading back home in March. I tried 20 once and wasn't happy with it, we just tough it out on 30 going straight through, the construction seemed to be somewhat less this past November. We try to make a mid day or a weekend transit

Thanks for the suggestions.We took the southern bypass around dallas last year at 7 pm and the traffic was very heavy. What would be the best time? North route, centre or southern?

I lived in the DFW area for 64 years and there will be heavy traffic on every highway during morning/evening/lunch rush hours. Patience is the key and like someone else said, get in the middle lane and let them go around you.

DFW has been under construction since I was born (Denver as well) - I think its time to cut these highway budgets and get the engineers and dreamers out of the sandbox!
I am really tired of continuously paying for highways to get wider so the same slow drivers can spread out across all the lanes. It just gives them a lot more room to drive and play candy crunch on the phone. No gain.
I just came through DFW in a rental car - I wouldn't wish dragging a 5er through any of that on anybody - the lanes are tight.

We have decided to go to New Orleans for a couple of days first so it looks like we will have to figure out Houston. Thanks for all the suggestions and Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.

I always schedule myself thru Houston at night when the traffic is better.
May see you on the road. 1/4 leaving San Antonio for Arizona. Will be in the Tucson area for a few days before heading to Quartzsite.

Been through Houston several times & fortunately I-10 has lots of lanes, so as I stated before find a comfortable one in the middle & go. One suggestion would be to check which side your exit is, in the past I've worked my way right 5 lanes to find out in 2 miles it exits left, if you find yourself in that situation, turn on your blinker & move over, they'll clear out of your way!
