I've seen this issue discussed in other truck forums, so I thought I'd start a thread here as I've found some interesting info lately on the subject. I'm looking to upgrade from our '11 Ford F250 SRW diesel to either a new F350 DRW or F450.

I saw comments on other forums that they had been quoted higher premiums for an F450. What I found was interesting. An F350 would actually lower my premium by $155 annually over my F250. An F450 which be cheaper still because the carrier would bind the truck along with the trailer as one whole RV policy.

Now I just have to decide between the upcoming '14 F350 DRW and F450. I'm told the details on the new Fords will be out later this month and orders are accepted as of 3/22, and that there are some big changes coming to counter the new Ram and GM HD products. Production starts early in July.

I've found that insurance pricing makes no sense as my 2011 Ram 3500HD SRW cost me more than my 2012 Ram 3500HD DRW and the 12' is a more expensive truck. It will be interesting to see what Ford comes up with for 2014!

We are researching insurance for our soon-to-be-delivered 36FB, our tow vehicle (2011 F450, which GEICO is no longer insuring) and our other SUV. Some companies will insure the 5th wheel and the SUV, but not the F450. We think our F450 and the RW should be insured by the same company. It seems that if we are involved in an accident that involves both, there would be a lot of finger-pointing between the 2 insurance companies.

Any thoughts or opinions on this?

The way that my insurance agent explained it to me was......as long as the trailer is being towed or is connected to the truck, the truck insurance covers the trailer. The trailer insurance is for theft, fire or damage caused while camping.
