Question Toilet bowl seal

Help~~~~Inside the toilet the seal that keeps water in the bowl isn't doing it's job. Has anyone had this issue and can we just get a new seal to install or does the whole toilet need to be replaced? We have an 2014.5 38RE.
Thank you,
Peach

You can get a new replacement seal, but you might want to try the vaseline solution. apply a little to the seal, and then open and close it a few times. It has a tendency to dry out. We always keep at least a cup of water in the bowl. Turn off water, open the flapper apply some vaseline with a q-tip all around and then open and close the flapper a few times.

The seal is only visible on one side. Wondering if it's in crocked. We have always tried to keep water in the bowl. Thanks for the suggestion, we'll try that first though. Can we just go through Terry at Redwood/Crossroads to have seal sent if it doesn't work?

It sounds like it might be time to take it apart if you are only seeing part of it.

You can get the seal from RW, or get the make of the toilet and you can order them from Camping World or off Amazon.

Fill your toilet with water and do this often. Sometimes the seal will start working again. My seal dried up too but it's now back to working order.

Thank you! Can the seal be taken out from the top or does the toilet need to be removed?

X2, as I have never taken it apart. It looks like you can separate the bowl from the base to get to the seal - check out this diagram

We've been encouraged to ask Terry Cooper questions... perhaps this is one he could help with?

I know LadyE participates on the forum, can you get Terry to give some advise on this?

I've had the problem on another product and the above solution worked for me. However, if it doesn't fix it, I'd just take it to any RV repair shop and let them fix it and just pay them even if it is in warranty. Pulling the toilet and doing the task is above my 'pay grade'. You're probably looking at one hour of shop labor.

Help on Toilet Seal

Just went to the Internet and typed in youtube RV toilet seal replacement. Information on getting a new seal from camper world and also gives a video with step by step replacement was viewed. It looks easy to change a seal. Any problems I have with the RV I have found a video on Youtube to guide me through the repair. Its a great source for information.
Hope this helps.

As said my Joel and Janis, I don't imagine this toilet is any different from my Montana. It was pretty simple to replace them. The gaskets just lay on the lower pedestal and then you put the toilet on and fasten down. I ordered mine online and got a two pack. While I had it apart, I used vaseline to lube anything that moved on it.

Try running a pop sickle stick around the seal inside the surrounding plastic. Sometimes a piece of debris sticks to the rubber seal and causes the seal to leak and empty the bowl.

NW Snowbirds, I know its just me, but no matter how many times I read your reply, it always reads "Try running a poop sickle stick...". I need to back away from the computer monitor :-)

I would use some plumbers grease rather than Vaseline as it's petroleum based & hard on rubber. Plumbers grease can be purchased at most home improvement stores.

Well, that's what it turns in to! My last trailer toilet came from the manufacturer with a plastic "poop sickle" stick for just this purpose.

Thank you everyone! Love the humor here. We will look at all the suggestions here and check them out! Even the poop sickle stick. I'm smiling!

Try Oatey 40610 Hercules Plumber's Silicone Grease...you can find it on Amazon for about $5.00...it is great...shut off your water and take a little and put it around the seal...the silicone is the key...all should be just fine.

Since we picked up our RW in July, our Toilet bowl never held any water between uses.
I bought some "Oatey - Plumbers Facet and Valve Grease" at Home Depot for less than two dollars. (its a small tube)
I made sure our Toilet Bowl seal was clean and free of debris, lubed the seal with the Facet and Valve Grease, it has been about 2 weeks now and the Toilet is still holding water between uses like it should.
