Thermostat issues, particularly when heating

Does anyone else notice any oddities with the thermostat when using the propane furnace? Mine seems to cycle a lot until the room truly reaches the set temperature. I'm not sure if this is due to having to bring not only the air but surrounding walls up to temperature or not. It drives me crazy, I want to set the new temp, have the heater come on once to heat it up, and then cycle as needed to maintain. Instead the thermostat shows that it's reached the desired temp, even though a temp gauge right next to it shows that to be incorrect, and then kicks on the furnace every time the updated temp drops 1 degree.

I really wish this thermo would wait the standard 2* difference between set and actual temp to come on.

Any good alternative thermostats available that aren't white?

Your BR layout is very similar to my RL. Make sure there isn't a vent that aims towards the hall or the wall. Mine did what you are describing until I redirected the overhead vents for heat and AC. On the furnace I replaced all the floor vents with adjustable ones. Turned the bedroom down quite a bit and it fixed the problem about 90 percent of the time.

I had the same issue with the thermostat, not sure if it's the layout or the stat. There was a forum comment about a bad thermostat. What I did is that I changed the thermostat to metric (being Canadian I wanted metric anyways) and that helped as now the temp moves 1 degree C (about 2 degrees F) before the heat comes on (less cycling).

If you are comfortable with Celsius temps this might work for you.

Have you noticed the new "adjustable" bedroom vent gets really, really hot now? I swapped mine out and it'll burn you now. With an infrared thermo I measured about 150* from that thing. I think it's because it hangs down lower and that duct gets a lot of action as it also flows into the basement.

We just changed the limit switch on the back of the furnace. Our experience was short cycling and never achieving the heat level we set. After this was done a light went off in my head...we have one of the Amish heaters under our dining room table and I realized that it was competing with the thermostat causing the issue. With it turned off the heater worked fine. Go figure. Good luck with your situation and eventual solution.
