Tailgate

Been thinking about picking up a 5er tailgate to swap out for the camping seasons and since I have been asking a lot of questions I thought I would ask what some of the better ones are out there that you are using. I did a very quick search and the all aluminum Husky looked pretty nice.
I want the center handle and most likely will paint to match the truck. Do any have the option to relocate a stock camera in it?

I have the Husky and it does have the option to relocate the stock camera. Had it for over a year and had no problems.

I've got a steel Custom Flo tailgate, I like that it's steel. It also can be bought with a piece that closes up the notch so that your stuff in the box is protected if you have a cover for your truck bed.

A couple of downsides, the paint is powder coat (put on by heat), I was told that it had to be removed (sandblasted off) if you want to paint the tailgate to match the truck. It also chips a bit if handled roughly, but the surface under the chips doesn't rust.

Just looked at the picture of your rig, if it's black, no re-painting required!

I wonder if I can apply some powder coat myself to repair?

I got mine through Amazon.com

I never knew just how old I was until I got that step!

I have the bed extenders too, and my daughter says those are to keep me from falling out of the truck when I reach the next phase of old!

I have the Alum Husky tailgate. But I to like the step in the OEM tailgate so that is what is on the truck.

I actually planned my truck accessories around that step... searched and looked for a rolling cover that did not latch to the tailgate so I could have that step... my last Roll-N-Lock cover attached to the tailgate and could not be used with that step.. They since redesigned it and make 2 styles.. 1 for the step , and 1 without it!..

Yes, I just got the Roll-n-lock not too long ago. All they really did is modify the rear track so it works with the step.

Another reason I want to stay with the full gate. Its so nice to have this huge locker that you can throw stuff in, either at the campsite or while out exploring and know it's reasonably secure. (Although I've actually never had anything stolen)

It seems to me (based on personal experience! ) that there are two kinds of trucks pulling 5ers, those that have a 5th wheel tailgate and those that have a dent at the center top, generally inside, on their standard tailgate.

The RW is easier to hook/unhook than some of our earlier 5ers but the "oh no" moment can still happen.

ya, there are a lot of those moments - drop the trailer on the bed (my buddy just did this..again), hit the pin on the gate, leave the antenna up, the list goes on.

I was backing into a campsite talking to my DW (she is just so entrancing!) and I punched the tailgate with my pin box because I forgot to stop $300 or so to fix that on my 2001.

I have not hit the tailgate on the Pin box yet. But I have forgotten to unhook the emergency brakeaway cable a few times when pulling away with truck OPPS

Drove off once with our MH and forgot to hook up the tow car. Got about mile away and got shock of my life car was gone. O wait I forgot to hook it up it was parked behind the MH could see it in Camera forgot I never hooked it up. My wife likes to tell that story.

I to rather keep the stock tailgate and have the ability to lock everything in the bed up
