My 2013 lost 2 springs on the rear axle the first one was when pulling into a sight to park for the night in a snowstorm in Birmingham, AL. Was able to find a spring the next morning. Then on the return trip in Bon Secour, AL broke the opposite side spring on the rear axle. 2 in one trip now replaced all the springs. 2 years later I haul it with an HDT 1999 Volvo VNL610. To get the trailer hitch pin to work with my air ride hitch I custom built a hitch box that goes straight down from the frame mount. Moving the whole riig up 2 feet putting more weight on the hitch pin. Result was moving over a thousand pounds of weight off the trailer axles. I would still like to replace the axles with 8000 pound axles just haven't pulled the trigger yet because my pending retirement has been delayed do to a very costly divorce. Things are coming together
nicely and hoping to get to use the rig more this year. I will beef up the spring hangers this year by welding the mounts boxing them in across the frame on the end of the springs.

2012 38BR - Broken Spring

I had my unit parked for 2 years in a campsite while I worked away from home.
On a routine inspection and greasing I noticed a broken spring. It broke 2" from the rear mount.
I decided to replace all 4 springs and wet bolts with new ones. I took photos of the original configuration which showed one spring up and one spring down at the center connection..
I have since lifted the RV on unlevel ground several times and now all 4 springs are LOWER than the center mount making the unit look strange.
I tried to reset them by driving over a 4x4 several times as mentioned in another post. I was able to get one to flip but that was it.
I took the RV to a local tire shop that services tractor trailers. We were able to get one side to flip but as soon as I raised the other side to correct them, the corrected side went back to the way it was!
Only option I can think of now is to lift the RV up and drop everything again to reset the springs and shackles. Leaving for a short trip to Ottawa this Friday so not going to start that now. Perhaps should consider changing out the center section with an upgraded part from Lippert?

Removing the shackles & flip it over is probably your best solution.
I used a long pry bar with the weight off that wheel to flip one of them over, maybe not the best plan but it worked.

We tried long pry bars and floor jacks this morning at the trailer shop... not worth breaking an arm over.
I took them all off before... I can do it again.

Our problem was the Shackles on the passenger side were broken. We ended up replacing the shackles and the center connector on both sides with Dexter system. The new shackles are twice as thick as the original shackles. We have taken it 5000 miles from Oregon to Texas and back with no problems.

2012 38BR - Broken Spring

Well... brute force and ignorance won the day. Jacked the rig WAY up and used blocks under the wheels and small sections of 1x2 pine to flip the shackles!

Question

Hello all, being a newbie to owning a RW,(previous HR presidential owner, among other travel trailers) I have a question, is the Mor Ryde IS suspension that you all rave about the same as the Mor Ryde SRE 4000? Or something different all together... Thanks in advance.

PS, after reading this, I went out and crawled under my unit, and the previous owner had 8k lb axles installed, and then had 3" x 3" x 5/16" thick cross section angle iron welded to the spring hangers and I beam frame from drivers side to passenger side on all 3 spring hangers. Looks to be very beefy, and the frame looks to be straight from front to back and not twisted at all. Makes me wonder if he had problems early on???

The morryIS is a complete suspension replacement. Takes them two days to do it at the factory. Everything gets cut off and then each wheel becomes its own fully independent swing axle suspension system with rubber shear springs and shock absorbers.

Ride and handling difference has to be experienced to be fully appreciated plus the fact no more suspension worries. We did ours 7 years and almost 50k troublefree miles ago.

We are on our 3rd fifth wheel, 2nd Redwood and all 3 had the IS installed.... It is at the point now where my wife told me after the last Redwood and IS that SHE would never own another fifth wheel without the IS . . . The ride is that much better...

We're in the same boat, third fifth wheel and third unit with the MORryde IS installed, and wouldn't own a large fifth wheel without Disk Brakes and IS.

I have installed the SRE 4000 on our RW about 3 years ago and also added the bracing at each spring holder for support as well as box welding the hangers for added strength. If I were full timer I would go with the IS upgrade but we only go about 1000-2000 per year and not worth the investment so far. I was able to do the SRE 4000 upgrade my self and cost was less than 1000.00 and that included heavy wet bolts and brackets.

Talking

Thanks for the info everyone. I watched a few YouTube videos on the system, and ya, I can see that in my future. Toughest part will be having the time to go to Indiana from the Phx, AZ area to get it done. Still a working stiff unfortunately, but it sure looks to be the cat's a**!!

I have heard there is a place in Oregon to have MorRyde IS system installed. Heard that it cost more but it is an expensive trip to travel to Indiana from the West. We had ours done last year at the Rally in Indiana, cannot tell you how much difference we have experienced with the IS system. My wife now leaves everything on the counter with no problems.

The authorized installer is

Henderson Line Up in Grants Pass, OR. They are more expensive but for people out west, not as expensive as a round trip to Indiana.

Hendersons is about 1000 miles from Phx, whereas Elkhart is about 1800.. so you would save roughly 1600 miles travel round trip.... That would help offset the higher cost...

Yes, for sure. Maybe next summer, and while we're waiting for the work to be completed, we can do the jet boat excursion up the Rogue river to Hell's gate. It's a blast, we've done it a couple times. Hopefully we have this virus crap over with by then...Hard to believe that there's only 2 places in the country that are certified to do this job. They must be very particular about who does it I'm guessing.

I'd be curious to know how much more $ it costs there. Anyone on here had the job done there recently?

Just had the IS and disk brakes done on my triple axle toy hauler, very costly, but just cant explain the braking power. I can easily lock them up if needed, and the ride is so much better. I guess that's towing with confidence .

The additional cost at Hendersons is because of the shipping cost of the assemblies, and they are heavy.
Some of the folks that have had it done scheduled it around the RW Rally in Shipshewana, to kill two birds with one trip.

roughly just under 5K for IS and the disk add about 2.7K in Elkhart. At this weight 7000lb spring axles and no shocks isnt a good set up.
