Structual crack

Our 2013 Redwood 36 fl developed a crack in the fiberglass below the front slide. The slide shudders when put in or out. Redwood cust, service was no help. I was advised to go to camping world. I was told to message Andi on this site for advise. Does anyone know how I can contact Andi?

They could be talking about a former Redwood employee in customer service whose name is Andi. I don't think she is an employee any longer.

Are sure its Andie and not Sandie. Sandie Yeats works for Keystone I think she is head of service. That is the person I dealt with when they took my rig in for warranty repair.

Take it back to the factory

We had the same problem with our 2012 Redwood 36RL. After getting the runaround and taking it to two different dealers in an attempt to get it repaired, we ended up taking it back to the factory in IL. The repair was done at the factory, and we haven’t had any problems since.

Try to make it to the annual Rally in Shipshewana

We have owned since new a 2012 Redwood 36FB and love it. We are in it as much as home (Arizona) and couldn't imagine our life without it. We also had the crack under front bedroom slide. We have been to the Redwood Rally twice and the service issues Redwood takes care of while there along with classes for how to care for your RV and enjoy it are worth the effort of heading to Indiana in July. The service manager is at the Rally and will work with owners to take care of unique situations. (Lippert was there too doing lots of service.) We had to bring the RV back on an appointment to have the crack fixed and we don't think about it at all now because they did such a great job not to mention several little things we mentioned or they saw and just did. They are the BEST service people by far! All work at the Rally or scheduled from the Rally through Redwood was goodwill.

We had structural issues under both front slides and on the top left corner of the driver side bedroom slide. When under warranty, Redwood fixed all (had to fix both areas twice) and the bedroom issue is now cracking again. However we have put over 100K miles on our 2012 36FL so perhaps that may be the issue.

We purchased a 2018 3821 RL and had structural problems under our bedroom slide which caused a 3 inch crack. Warranty had ours fixed at the camping world in Garner NC. Found out that the frame was only spot welded and had broken loose causing to much flex. Had to pull the bottom front off behind the kingpin and weld the frame. This seems to have fixed the problem.

It never ceases to amaze me why Redwood (and other mfg's) don't fix the root cause of this cracking. It was a problem when Redwood started in 2012 and it's still going on 6 years and heaven knows how many claims later. Simply amazing.

Especially now that they are Keystone! Keystone remedied the problem a decade ago by cutting in the stress joint and filling it with a molding at the factory, not after the fact.

I'm the second owner and am having the same issue. I don't suppose that would be covered by warranty.

What would it cost to have this repaired.

Thanks, Gerard

Hello

No never did get it repaired but did get a quote of $1300 to repair.

Looking to downsize and I'm sure this is not going to help the resale of it.

We have it the crack repaired 3 times now we have a massive crack and they are telling us it is structural and so far I have a quote of $2500 just to start so I was wondering if anyone else has had to have the frame re-welded

How are they repairing it? If they aren't providing a stress joint, they are wasting your time as it will keep breaking.

This structural cracking of the side walls usually is near the corners of the front slide outs. Could be too much upper deck flex. Lippert has a certain way to determine if there is too much flex. Might be covered by Lippert depending on the age of the units involved. Might only be tack welded or might need additional gussets. But agree with Brad that a relief cut on the exterior fiberglass is needed or it will be repeating itself. After the relief cut is made a "H" type plastic channel is inserted and sealed to cover the cracked area. These are heavy units and the roads do tend to make things bounce up and down causing stress on the frame. Make sure you are not overloaded also as this would not be covered by warranty.

crack repair?

I have a crack below the bedroom slide. When the trailer is disconnected from my truck, the gap is closed; when connected to my truck there is a gap about 1/4" There obviously is movement in the frame. When this is repaired on other units, or by dealers, does anyone know what structural repairs are done. There must be some welding performed, and i'd like to know where on the frame so i can do that. No sense fixing the crack if i don't fix the cause.

On my 2018 3821RL, they had to take the whole front from the hitch to where the generator compartment off. This revealed the frame which had only been spot welded and had broken loose. The frame was repaired with new welds, front reassembled, and crack repaired. It has been close to a year and I have had no additional issues. Warrenty paid for it, but you have to jump through hoops to get it approved with a million pictures. The Camping World In Garner, NC has a body shop attached to it and they did my work. I was a little leery of taking it to Camping World for repair, but the reviews for this body shop were good.

My neighbors have a fairly new Augusta Luxe (2017 or 2018) that has a 15" to 20" structural crack on the sidewall from the corner of the bedroom slide to the corner where the bath deck/front storage compartment wall intersect. She's also been complaining about a crack on the rear cap. Even the very expensive units seem to have their share of structural issues.
