Rotten Egg Smell

Hey Guys,

I have this rotten smell coming out of my kitchen sink if I have any small amount of liquid in the grey tank. Once I empty it, it is gone. How do I fix it? It is about to drive me crazy!

Dave

Drain/flush your water heater & check anode rod, that's where the egg smell comes from on mine.

There is a p-trap device under your kitchen sink. The is a label to check this if you are trying to snake you sink. This device could be defective or damaged.

Thank you so much!! It was the P trap valve. I already changed the anode already this past few weeks.

It's my understanding......that the "rotten egg" smell is from filling your water tank with a rubber hose instead of the white hose. When the water heater heats the water, you'll get that smell.

Also, carefully look under your sink area for the slightest drips of water. There have been cases where a very slight leak has caused major problems and the mold could have a smell to it.

I have never heard of that Dave, but it's possible. We've never experienced the smell. I use a garden hose at the house (same hose for 20 years), but I think it is more vinyl than rubber. I have heard of the anode, but ours is eaten up at the end of each season and still no smell.

I bought one of those krinkly hoses with brass valves for the Redwood, and liked it so much (for general use, not water supply) I got one for home. The day we got home my fuel line failed with diesel, and that hose self destructed within an hour trying to hose the diesel out of the garage. I couldn't believe how fast it ate it.

I've never used a garden hose, always white/drinking approved & my hot water begins to smell in about 6 months, I drain/flush & inspect the rod, no more smell. Our kitchen sink drains begin to smell when it's time to drain.

I probably don't stay in mine long enough to experience the smell, and I drain everything after each trip.

Does this happen at all of the places you are staying at? If it only happens at one place, it could be the water.

The well water where our trailer spends the summer would cause the smell. This summer we are using a softener for the first time. We have had zero smell since. Our truck camper has an Atwood WH and has never smelled. It also doesn't use an anode rod.
