You will find the butt joints of the plywood are not all over a truss.

Agree. It is a poor way to build a house roof, but, this is an RV and the RV industry does not build to those standards. If they did, they would create some scrap sheathing (and additional labor) and scrap/labor is additional money and that would either cost the RV maker (less profit) or cost you more for the better quality.

Hoosierguy, I understand the cost saving stuff ,still when we pay more cash for what we assume is a better product it makes for poor business when the company cuts corners on items like roofs, suspensions, brakes, and tires.
thanks for the reply,Vern

The way they resolved that on ours was they left one of the roof trusses OUT!
(No need to match up the joints if it's not there )

The dealers tech almost fell through it doing their pdi and that's why they kept it the first 30 days....

John, are you still suffering from the initial problems your rig started out with, or has it accumulated more?

I think there are 3 major problems with Rvs as a whole.

#1 They are hand made (quickly). The auto industry solved many of their problems by programing machines to do the work. With a machine, every move is calculated and exactly the same as the previous move. Since the RVs aren't all the exact same, this would be cost prohibitive. People do make mistakes and a small mistake can have a multiplying effect on other parts of the RV.

#2 Weight. Since weight is an issue, there's only so much that can be done under a certain amount of weight. Even the faucets are very thin and lite weight. Imagine what your "stick and brick" homes would be like if weight was an issue.

#3 Vibrations. These units are built to be lite weight yet they're rolling earthquakes going down the road. Think of the damage that occurs in our "stick and brick" homes during an earthquake. Just a little thing like an out of balance wheel adds to the constant vibration. I've jokingly suggested putting magnet mud flaps on every RV to help catch the falling parts.

There are some industry improvements. For example the residential refrigerators. The RV refrigerators have been fragile at best and in many cases dangerous due to fires. It's nice to see more residential refrigerators being used. I hope they start looking at the roofing systems next.

Yes, and yes

Redwood (or somebody) finally sent a response to my attorney 3 wks ago and we are getting out of it (with great losses) but getting out of it... but he thinks it will be at least another 3 weeks or so they move so slow...
