Refrigerator drain line

Poking around in the lower refrigerator compartment over the weekend and noticed that, in what appears to be the condensate drain line, a small black plug in the hose. Why would the hose have a plug that was specifically designed for that diameter hose?

If you are referring to the black drain hose coming out the drivers side of your unit, the plug is there to keep wasps out. The "plug" actually has five or six holes in it. Sometimes it may get plugged up (bad punn) and you will need to clean it out periodically.

Mine doesn't protrude outside of the vent door, it empties into a drip pan inside the vent compartment, anyone else have theirs this way?

A very, very small pan indeed.

GREAT information! Thanks, everyone. At this rate of information gathering, I'll complete my junior year of Redwood U. before we even take delivery.

I asked our dealer about the drain, that most coaches I saw had the drain extending through the vent door and why ours didn't...he said that both methods are used and either method is acceptable, he said the advantage of having the drip pan is that with this method you can secure the vents with wasp screens to prevent them getting into the refer's guts.

I added vent screens prior last year before I headed to TX for 6 months. It helps keep the critters out.

I added them to all my critter prone vents [refer, furnace & water heater] as soon as I got the coach. Better safe than sorry!!

I think Norcold uses pan, and Dometic hose through the vent.

We put screens up on every orifice we could think of to keep the 'mud daubers' from taking up residence inside the outside of the unit. We even put up screening on the outside of the a/c units on top. There is no way to protect the underside of the LP tank cargo doors, we have spiders building webs in there already. So far, no mud daubers.

Hadn't thought about the A/C's, I'll have to check them and add some screening. Can you take pictures of what you've done and post them?

For those of you venturing into Colorado - we are having our 7 -year miller moth infestation as I understand! Billions of them buggers even at 14,000 ft. The love to hang out in everything, especially LP orifices and they can burn a rig to the ground if they block the orifice and it ignites in front of it. Lost 1 BBQ grille to them years ago. Just be aware.

Will hopefully do it this week-end. Chance of thunder-showers for a while

Good info. Will be in CO through the end of June. I'll keep an eye out.

I am wondering about one of those "No Pest Strips" in strategic places to help with some of the hiding places for critters... as long as it was outside the living area. I know I used one on my back patio near the door and I no longer had flies and bees near the door which then flew into the house every time someone walked thru. Might give that a try.

I'm not sure the millers are attracted to the no pest strips. At least I've never seen any on one. A small bowl of slightly soapy water under a light is an old proven method, but I've only seen it work for the occasional batch.

We had them so bad in the Texas panhandle one year, when we turned on the lights in the evening there 1000s of them, so I got the shop vac out & went to work at each light fixture, still don't know how they got in as I had screens on everything already, probably sucked up a grocery bag full in a couple of evenings.

Here's a quick pic. The screen isn't plastic, but feels like it. Won't melt, we tried lighting it with a lighter. Hubby used Clear Gorilla Tape to secure it.
