Refrigerator doors open during travel

We have a new 36RL with a residential size Samsung French Door double door refrigerator with a large freezer drawer on the bottom.
The double doors open during travel, anyone have any ideas for a fix other than a bungee cord.
Am checking with Redwood since it is still under its 90 day period and still under warranty.
Thanks for the help.

Redwood have a fix that was recently discussed in this thread.

ours came with velcro...
but went by Lowe's or Home Depot and got some 2" wide velcro to wrap around the two handle to make sure

Someone made an upside down U out of plywood, padded it, and slips it between the handles and down behind the freezer handle to stop it from opening too...
Others bought clasps to glue / screw into the sides of the fridge...

Question - is your Samsung anchored ? i.e. can you tip the top OUT ?

Ours was not and has a dent where it struck the island:

Not sure about it being anchored properly but I certainly will check on it.
Thank you

We had our dealer check after reading on here about the tipping. Ours was already anchored. We have the Velcro strap and the side clip.

I'm the one who started the other thread. So far these fixes have worked flawlessly! If you can grab your fridge and tip it towards you then it's not anchored properly IMO. This latches have worked great to keep the doors closed. As far as I know Redwood is aware of these fixes my dealer did. (B.Young RV Portland, OR)

It was Darin who is no longer there but Ryan the service managers was involved and I think he is the guy who came up with the latches. I would contact Ryan Mansfield he can make it happen. ryan@byoungrv.com

Refer Latch

I was the one that cut the plywood into an upside down U. We have since covered it in fabric.

Hi, Ken. Great idea, just discovered it reading blogs. How thick is the plywood? Has it caused any marring to the refer surface?

"Someone made an upside down U out of plywood, PADDED it, and slips it between the handles and down behind the freezer handle to stop it from opening too..."

Just staple some thin carpeting, etc to the plywood..... should prevent marring.

DW covered the entire board with felt. It leaves no marks. I used 3/8 ply.

Great! I'm going to make one. The freezer strap has come off twice in two trips. Love this simple idea.

Another fix for securing doors of Samsung Residential Refrigerator

After reviewing the various options in the forum about securing the doors of the Samsung Refrig. during travel, I decided to contact Samsung to find out what that screw hole in the middle of the 3 doors was for. After contacting several within Samsung, no one could provide me with an answer or whether or not there is something they offer to help hold all 3 doors closed during transport.

Though I won't take total credit on the screw idea, since I got it from the forum, I wanted to provide some pictures of how I tackled it for about $5. I got all the parts from my local Lowes store:

one bolt - 5/16-18 x 4 inches long
one steel washer
two rubber washer
one rubber packing sheet 6x6x1/8"

I cut out the rubber sheet using a large bowl. Figured the DW would prefer it round rather than square.

Hope this is helpful for those still looking for a remedy. If I should ever hear from Samsung, I'll share that as well, but they seemed pretty perplexed by it.

Steve

That does look like an easy fix, except my refrigerator doesn't have the hole you put the bolt in.

You drill a hole and put a threaded nut insert in I don't think it needs to be that large but in a bad wreak at least the doors will still be closed

Our fridge was not anchored properly and not sure how they anchored but hopefully fix. We are at dealer right now. They had to replace door...this is second time. Looks like lock they have for doors will work. First lock they send us was too short. Anchoring is the key though for it banging against the island.

We installed this type and it came off the second trip. Redwood supplied us a metal new type and going to try it. I'll try to send a couple pictures.
