Pulling doubles

Well here I am again with same subject but with different options.
So I upgraded from pulling my 36Fl from 3/4 ton to a 1 to DRW thanks to all imput on this 100 percent difference I love it !

Now I purchased a 7x16 dual axel cargo mate utility trailer thinking I was going to a get second truck, but I want to attempt to pull double for a little while first.
I'm looking to upgrade to IS 7k + 17.5 sailun 14ply + disc brakes

Question here is ! What should I install on top of this?
Please remember my max on the utility trailer will be no more then 4000k so that be around 400 on rear hitch.

I figure I'll get TPMS sensors and Wireless rear camera

The rating on the hitch is 3,000 lbs gross total. I am sure most of that is because of the frame it is attached to. at 4,000 lbs, you are exceeding the limit by 33% and are risking frame damage as well as being a real safety concern. Trailer brakes on the utility trailer at that weight may also be advised.

The 400 lb tongue weight may or may not exceed the rating. I have not checked.

I tow doubles but my total weight with my ATV and trailer are well under 2000. I have a Jeep that is right at 3000 and would use a brake setup if I were to tow it.

Ya it's 300 lbs, and probably the weakest aspect. That receiver sticks out so far I always worried a little about my bike rack.

When upgrading to the Mor/ryde IS, I would go to the 8K setup, especially since you plan to go to 17.5 tires.

I agree with Michelle, go to the 8k IS and be done with it. I can tell you that pulling the Focus behind the coach with the IS, disc and H rated Sailun is effortless. Only way I know it's back there is look in camera.

A trailer though would be a different pull. The Focus has almost nothing in tongue weight, just the weight of the towbar equipment. It also has a digital, fully proportional brake system that is tied in with the coach With it and the discs on coach, braking is a non-issue and is very impressive. I'm not sure how you would accomplish the same with a trailer brake system. I would think a surge brake setup like a boat trailer uses would be the preferred way to go.

I would definitely reinforce the hitch.

I switched my boat to electric brakes years ago because the surge was not ideal for these mountain passes. I had a 2nd trailer brake controller for the boat when I tripled. It took some trial runs to sync, but worked fine after that. It was great to have the ability to brake just the boat if you felt it was wagging a bit.

Brad - if anyone had the solution I knew it would be you. Lol. Hadn't thought of the idea to add a second controller but that makes total sense.

The colors are pretty close. The truck is a really dark brown called Kodiak Brown and the tan almost matches the coach. The Focus is a color called Tectonic and changes from a silvery beige to almost a matching tan depending on the lighting. Overall I'm pretty happy with the way it looks.

Ah, the truck looked black to me in the pic. Good side is, that Kodiak Brown is one of their best colors.
