Well that's a start anyway. GFCI can be annoying, but they are only seeing conductivity between neutral and ground. Technically you might still have an issue.
Something funny on ours - we always seem to forget to turn off our ACs, one or the other, sometimes both. Can't seem to find that off in the middle. I pulled up to the house and grabbed a 100' yard cord on a reel for the weedeater to plug our RV in just enough to run the vacuum. While the vacuum was on, the AC came on and I didn't hear it. Kid started yelling because the coil of cord still on the reel was smoking. By the time got outside it burst into flame like a roman candle and melted in a pile right in the middle of the driveway. I replaced the weedeater cord but bought some 20a heavy duty cords to plug in the Redwood when at home.

Boy it was toxic as heck Dan- smelled for a month out there.
Goes to show Michelle and Ann! A breaker has to see the heat to trip, and if the cord or undersized wire is absorbing the heat, the breaker will stay closed until destruction. I always think of folks that swear they can run two ACs and all their appliances on 30A, but don't realize their 30A cord is like a toaster element out there and they can be pushing as much as 40-50-60A through that breaker
