We were getting off-topic in "YIPPEE", so I'm starting this one.

Thank you everyone for suggestions.

I love Astoria and it would be fun to spend some time there after family time in Portland (Kevin's daughter & family, my sister & hubby in Columbia City).

Kevin's daughter lives in the St. John's Bridge area and we are looking for a park near there. There's the Jantzen Beach Park and another one near it, but it's a heavy traffic and noise area (trucks, trains, planes). Does anyone have any other suggestions? We don't care so much about facilities, other than it's clean and safe and we're not packed in like sardines.

Thank you,

Joyce

Joyce, the best choice for you in north west Oregon is Cannon Beach rv park, less than 30 minutes south of Astoria. (cbrvresort.com). From Portland, we use the highway along the Columbia, through Astoria to Cannon Beach.
For us, coming south from British Columbia, after border clearance, it's all freeway to the Washington Oregon border. We fuel once prior to entering Oregon over the Lewis and Clarke bridge in Longview.
Last trip I found myself south of Portland, looking for a "better way". Signage made me miss my turnoff but after turning around we made our way to the coast. This particular roadway was narrow, bumpy and full of hills as we approached the ocean.
The destination is always the Pacific so I am without answers for inland.
Which route would take you westward??
Papa Stu.

I live in Portland and have stayed at Champoeg State Park a few times. It's just 30 minutes from my home and probably another 15 minutes to The St. Johns area. It's a terrific little park with a very well maintained campground - clean showers, electricy and water hook up and an on-site dump station. Better than any RV park in the area.

Have a great trip.
