Linc pad system

Because of some of the things that can't be controlled without the Linc System is the reason we passed on it.

There are a few items on ours that require the tablet. Hot water, electric/gas switch, generator, awning lights, tank monitor are some of the things that come to mind.

I don't know if all the extra glitz and glitter is all it's cracked up to be. When we were shopping for our new MH we kept seeing the "multiplex" wiring and I thought it was really cool but after having it for a while I must say it can be an inconvenience too.

In my Redwood I could sit in my recliner and hit the button that turned on and off the light. Now I have to walk across the room to do the same thing. All the lights are controlled by pads mounted to the walls where the manufacture thought it would be convenient. On the plus side, I can lock the entire unit down, set the alarm and turn off every light in the coach while laying in bed... but the day to day use.......the jury is out. Sometimes I think they make all of these RVs too damn fancy and the race continues to the next new feature.

Dave..........I am a technologically knowledgeable person in most cases. But, technology for the sake of technology just so a person can say they have the latest and greatest can sometimes be no more than "fluff" and has no real utility. I have a favorite saying that "just because you can do it, doesn't mean that should do it". I have designed my share of electronics hardware and written a good amount of embedded software. Before retiring after working for 51 years in the electronics industry, I worked with several engineers of varying backgrounds, none of us had "smart phones" and most of us were still using "flp phones". My wife has a smart phone and an I-Pad so when I need something, I have her use her device. That occurs about once per week when we "face time" with our kids in Washington state.

The concept of the Linc Pad is a novel idea, but, there are too, too many failure modes. The idea of an electrical switch is a binary device......it is either closed or open. It is a lot easier to troubleshoot!!

I still us a laptop with Windows XP, but, I just built a high end desktop computer from the ground up and installed Windows 7 (along with the 250 or so upgrades).

My flip phone is getting pretty long in the tooth so I may have to upgrade my flip phone to a new flip phone one of these days. That way I can keep from getting involved in the "texting thing" !!! JMHO.

The system will work when not plugged into the dock. It has to be in wifi mode once the the linc sys will appear wih the sid number, but you have to have apassword. The password is on the linc hub marked p/w. The hub is located on mine on top of the cabnet over where the docking station foem linc pad is. Once you enter the password then youn can get to everything and your tab will control everythin undocked. Hope this helps my dealer didn't know this.

Mine is connected to the WiFi network and only works plugged in. Used to work both ways but didn't since we picked it back up from our dealer. Taking it back in on Wednesday for other things and will have them fix that aswell
