Installing residential Dead bolt lock

My wife is wanting a better lock on the trailer. She is not impressed with the one we have currently. Has anyone installed a Residential deadbolt on a RW? I have a Friend that did it to his Mobile Suite trailer. Any feedback would be helpful.

My wife would like that too, sometimes I am gone overnight and she and the puppy dog stay in our Redwood by themselves.

With the flimsy doors on all rvs, in my opinion, a residential dead would only deter someone about another 10 seconds. Not sure I'd mess up the door for that little dab of security.

I thought of this thread when I saw this.
RV Deadbolt for your Protection - PPL Motor Homes

It can be done. You would have to drill the hole and side hole for the bolt. They make a jig for this. Can get it at most home improvement stores.

Before we got the Bauer lock replaced, our lock was just as good as a dead bolt, none of us could get in

Serious though, these walls are pretty thin to try to shove a 1" thick bolt through. It would just mean more damage to the rig when they got in.

I agree with Shane on his deadbolt. I use a Kimber custom covert II 45auto. Fits nice and laser guided for night time use as well

I think you would also have trouble with the thickness of the door. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think the doors are too narrow for a deadbolt to mount tightly.
