Hot Water Heater Chattering - Check Valve

I own a 2011 Redwood 36RE.
Recently, there is a relatively loud humming/chattering noise when the hot water is turned on.
After doing some research, I believe I need to replace the brass check valve that attaches to the hot water source on the back of the 12 gallon Suburban hot water heater.
I haven't quite found my way to the problem area just yet. I can wiggle my way through plumbing to get within a foot or so from the rear of the water heater.
The brass check valve appears to be male (threaded) on each end.
Can anyone tell me the model of the check valve; or
a good replacement model check valve; or
if the current check valve is 3/4 or 1/2 NPT, or a combination of both.

Thanks,
Don in Maine

Pretty sure the check valve is 1/2" on both ends. Many replacements to be found. Just be sure you install with the same direction of flow, usually indicated. Even plastic ones are used today. Pressures in the RV water supplies are not usually near as high as some households. I like to regulate incoming water pressure to reduce risk of leaks and breakages.

DO NOT buy the plastic check valve, they can't take the strain of all the lines tee'd off of it & WILL crack, been there, done that. It's 1/2" pipe threads.

Also may want check the heating element (easier to get to), had one on the S&B that chattered & turned out to be the element.

Danny mine does not chatter it just make a whirring or humming noise..Is that valve on the upper side of the back of the tank. Is it really that hard to get to.

The only way I knew to get to mine was by taking the streetside basement wall down and crawling back in there over the mess. Other models may be different.

I remember a wire came loose on ours at the PDI and the tech got so far back in there he disappeared from view standing outside the basement door.

Yes Royce, the top line on the back is the hot, had to take the basement wall down to get to it. Instead of putting all the screws back in I stapled industrial strength Velcro to the panels so next time I just pull it down.

Thanks Brad. I still have my walls down from when I raised the steps back up and putting the heating ducts that were just laying on the floor and making us womder why we didn't have heat coming out...Just hope I can get my old, fat butt and poor stiff knees working well enough to get the job done.

Thanks Danny. I had just picked up a plastic one at the closest Rv store and that was all they had...I will get out tomorrow and get a brass one in Sulphur Springs and take the other back when get the time.. I have the crimping tool and I think I have some crimp style rings ( hope there 1/2 inch ). Once in was there enough room to use the crimp tool?

It's a tight fit for those of us that may be a bit on the portly side.
