If your Redwood has the generator prep package, it was designed for the Onan 5500.

I have the Onan 5500 and it works great. It's my understanding that the 6500 fits in there too but I'm not sure if it uses any more fuel.

I have the GenSet prep package which I was told is designed to accept an Onan 5500 LP unit. I had the LP unit installed by the dealer prior to pickup and it has worked well. No gas gum-up problem with the LP. It starts and runs like a champ.
Be prepared for several extra pounds on the tongue.

I wonder why more folks don't opt for the 6500? It's the same footprint and size and would offer better power. Fuel efficiency is identical at half load, but the 6500 does consume .01 gal/hr more than the 5500 at low load and max load, probably because it operates at a higher rpm.

We bought the 5500 almost 10 years ago for a much smaller trailer. If I was buying one now, I would probably go with the 6500, unless the price was just too unreasonable.

We have not over-run our 5500, but I did have to swap the output circuits (1 is 20A the other 30A) after we installed because the load on the 20A was too high with the ACs on. It's fine now.

I wondered same thing myself. The 6500 is very similar, but most manufacturers only offer the 5500(?)
