For those running propane generators

What kind of usage are you experiencing? I saw a guy post on the RV.net site the same exact question... Nobody answered with real world numbers... Are you getting 24hrs...36 hrs... Out of 2 bottles at full load ??

I followed his thread , but nobody seems to answer him.

I found this about Onan 5500 LP geny,
.8 gallon/hr BTU: 73,202 BTU/HR@60F
Doesn't state at what load percentage.
Look under the tab of 'SPECS' on this page:

Cummins Onan RV QG 5500 LP - 5.5kW RV Generator LP

We have a 6500 Onan in ours and never need it as we almost always have park hookups. Usually just run to exercise it once per month at half load to keep it in good shape. So I can't tell you consumption. And from what I understand, a 20# tank is 4.8 gallons.

With my LP generator, If I sat in a parking lot over night to run the generator to keep the a/c on, I could go through about 4 or 5 nights on 2 tanks of LP. I had the larger tanks. We used the generator whenever we had a need but with the exception of real heat like in AZ we rarely kept the generator running all the time.

The mechanic said that the LP generator should be ran 1 or 2 hours a month.

Running both ACs in say 90 to 95 temps, we can go through a 40 Lb tank in 8 to 10 hours.

The attached spec shows consumption based on no load, half, and full load. Typical consumption is .8 - 1.1 gal/per hour and the 2 30lb tanks have a total of 14.2 gal, the 2 40 lb tanks have a total of 19 gal, so at half load you are toast in about 23 hrs if you have the larger tank option, and nothing else on the rig is using propane.

Well considering mine is 10 years old with little hours it could be. But actually sometimes I'm not the brightest with the key board. By the way maybe you can help me. On one of the other posts you asked someone to post a schematic to the library and said the link was are the top. All I ever see at the top is forums, new posts and inbox. Where would I find library? Thanks for your help. Tom

Tom, you must be accessing from a phone/tablet? I can't see the menu from my Droid either, but on a PC the tabs are at the top under Redwood Owners and include HOME - FORUM - PHOTOS - LIBRARY - REGISTRY.

PS - My generator is 13 years old, so I guess it is a Conan too

On your Android click on the 3 dots in the address box & click desktop version & you'll see all the tabs.
