Newbie here, just doing week long camping without water hookups. I take it the simplest way to refill a water tank is to hang a flexible water jug from a hanging hook in a tree or somewhere.

Given that, how do you fasten a flex hose to the water jug? (I have not been able to come up with a way that does not have the hose flying off and water pouring all over the place)

Are there water jugs available with attached flex hoses? (I have searched all over and not found one)
Thanks!

You might want to try something like this. A portable shower for $29.95 at Gander Mountain, just unscrew the shower head and screw on a hose connection:

Why not just buy a funnel at the dollar store or wally mart and shove it in the fresh water tank fill spot.
Then dump your water jug into the trailer fresh water tank!

Been looking for options. Most funnels do not have hoses so you have to deal with a bad angle of trying wedge a hard cone short end into a 90 degree angle, so the wide end of the funnel will be upright.
I spent an hour in Canadian Tire today, you would figure they would have some kind of funnel, but only found one with a flexible end and it had a tiny wide end, it would take hours to fill the tank.
I will try those places next, just can't imagine they'd have a bigger selection than Canadian Tire though.
I did see a pic of one of those common, cheap collapsible camping water jugs, with a 1" clear hose coming out of it. You just hang it from a hook above the fill cap and go back to your beer. Problem was the site I saw it on was years old and no way to post anything to find out how it was made.
Thanks,
Ian

Is the shower head adapter the same as a hose end?

I have no idea, but I'm sure you could find an adapter at one of the big box stores or reputable plumbing stores.

Why not go to home depot and get a 1” hose about 2 foot long and then check in the garden section for a large funnel or pick up a large funnel at autozone and hose clamp the 2’ hose to the filler tube and fille your tank that way. Just my 2 cents.

I broke thedrain fittingthat hangs down from thefresh water tank pulling into a RI State Park - losing all 100+ gallons I had brought with me. After Redwood sent another fitting & I replaced it right there, I had to haul water and replace a substantial amount so I could still dry camp.

Aftertrying to re-fill by holding up the 5gal. 40lb.'ers and pouring into a funnel (killer...), a guy came over with aportable table and a 10' hose. He put the jugs up on the table, put a hose in the jug, started a siphon, and stuck the other end in the fill connection. I couldn't believe how fast and effortlessly the water transferred into the fresh water tank - maybe 4 mins./jug. Why didn't I think of that??

If you want to see all kinds of ingenious ways to refill a fresh water tank, spend a little time on the BLM land around Quartzsite AZ. You will see everything from gallon jugs , collapsible bladders on the roofs of trucks, to tanks mounted in the bed of trucks with electric pumps and everything I between.

Thanks folks!
The funnel idea is not bad, but yes I can imagine holding the jug will get kind of old.
The syphoning idea is very quick, easy and cheap to try at least... I already have a camping water jug, I read elsewhere a guy that just threw a rope over a tree with a hook on the end to hang the water jug... I think I will try this for my first kick at it.
We generally get water hookup, but there are a couple of times a year that we camp in provincial parks without water. I don't think we do it that much to get into bladders on trucks etc. Just want a simple easy solution to pouring a few jugs of water in a day... and prefer ideas where I can sip a beer while its filling! lol
Thx

If picking up the water jug is a problem why not just buy a cheep water pump and leave the jugs in the bed of your truck. You can hook a wire from the battery run 1 hose into the water jug and the other into the fresh water fill of the trailer. This way you can empty 3- 5 gallon water jugs in just 5 minutes while drinking a cold one.

Kind of a late reply, but here goes:

When we RV'd in Mexico the water pressure at campgrounds was always low so I bought a 12 V RV water pump and used it as a booster going into the trailer. We don't go to Mexico anymore but I use the pump (with one hose into the water can ad the output hose into the water fill input), it empties the 5 gallon can in a minute or so.

Not a cheap solution but easier than manhandling those cans to get the water into the Redwood!

If the pump in the Redwood fails I also have a spare.

If you can get the jug above the fill, you can buy a foot valve and hose and let gravity do the work through a siphon. Foot valves are available at many auto supply stores for use for fuel transfer. These foot valves are merely a fitting with a captive ball-bearing. When you push it into the water the ball rises and the tubing fills with water to the depth of the water. Repeated motion stacks the water into the tubing untill you reach the point where siphon action takes over. I've sampled wells with the water 50 feet below the surface, so I know they work well.
