Absolutely, depending upon the time of year, I'll either preheat or precool.

Onan LP Generator

This thread pushed me over the top to order with the LP Onan from the factory, lot's of great useful ideas,
1) run while on the last leg of the haul to pre-cool the RW,
2) place to park the dogs with A/C while roadside dining,
3) power during an ice storm at the house ( was out of power 10 days a few years back)
4) Emergency power in the case of dead batteries

Thanks for some great feedback, I espiceally related to the 4wd comment, nice to have when you need it.

You will enjoy the convenience!

One note, your last item is to help with dead batteries, but that generator won't start with dead batteries, nor will the truck offer enough starting amps through the trailer charge wire to start it (in fact it will probably blow the fuse on the truck).

However you can jump start the gen from the truck. Done it a couple of times. Tom

I always unplug the camper from the truck before starting the generator. Is that necessary? Anyone know?

It shouldn't matter if you have batteries in the trailer, as it will draw from them first. If they are dead, or missing, it could blow the fuse on the truck charge wire.

Probably most of the times I start the generator, we are hooked up to the truck.
