Entry door not staying locked

In our 2017 RW when we lock up the entry door for travel we use both locks. And the hand grip goes over the door. Have noticed last few times we get r day to unhook is the door is unlocked and only the hand grip keeps it in place. Well it really doesn’t come all the way open but I don’t think this is a good thing. Any suggestions on how to correct this?

If you are using the electronic lock then I would check that the dead bolt part of the lock is actually working. I had to install new batteries in ours this past weekend and I tried it with the door open to make sure it was programming correctly. I noticed the dead bolt part would only protrude about half way and not completely lock. I haven't solved this yet but I thought I would pass this along.

I used to use the keypad to lock our door until we came back a few times to find the deadbolt unlocked. I talked to a Bauer lock guy and he said the pocket on the RW's is not deep enough. When you lock it using the keypad, it will run the bolt in and if it cannot fully lock it, it will open and try again. If it still cannot fully lock it will stay in the unlocked position.

I found a bit of trim in the pocket, cleaned it out and put a dent in the metal upright. Ours will now lock fully, but I don't trust it. I pulled the batteries and use the key.

I know you said you use both locks. When my wife closes the door, it seems to latch for about 30 minutes or until we rock pretty good. Then it will open. That said, our main latch will not hold the door shut unless I pull/push on it good. Or she slams it.

I would say you have 2 problems.
1. Not shutting the door good enough - You can adjust the plate on the frame so it engages fully.
2. And the deadbolt not fully locking.

I checked the door when we stopped for fuel. Seemed to be ok. I will know for sure when we get to the house on a couple of hours. We don’t have a key pad. So I do have to use a key.

When we got home the door was unlocked but the hand grip kept it closed. This isn’t going to work. Ideas on how to solve this problem? Thanks in advance

On most RV trailer doors there are two ways to lock the door, use the key in one of the lock cylinders and it locks the outside handle, use the other cylinder and it activates the deadbolt.
If you are using the deadbolt lock on a manual lockset it should not come unlocked. If you are using the handle lock cylinder it can come open because of the door and frame flexing when you are going down the road.

If the door still comes open with the Dead Bolt fully engaged, you must have some serious movement in the door frame.
We always fold the grab handle against the door, so even if the door didn't get fully latched at can come open.

It’s open but not like wide open. We do also use the grab handle and that keeps it from swinging open. Just don’t think it should be doing this

Ours did that when we first got it, just had to adjust the Striker Plate so that the latch would fully engage. Haven't had an issue since.
Are you sure that the Dead Bolt is fully engaged? If it is, there is something seriously wrong with the door or it's frame.

Agree with Michelle. I had to adjust the striker on ours a bit after the coach had a few miles on it. That deadbolt extends out almost a 1/2" at full stroke. If it's not going into the pocket in the door frame though it would/could give you the situation you've got.

What door lock is on your coach ? Bauer or RV Lock ? I would look at the striker alignment first and if that doesn't fix it call the lock manufacturer and then Redwood if needed. Both of the lock makers are top notch companies to deal with.

We had to adjust ours also first when we originally bought it. Then again when the door was replaced because it separated because of the friction Hinges. Sounds like your lock does not fully engage we found this to happen when we used the keyless pad on ours. I filed out the strike plate and holes in the frame and have had no issue since.

As mentioned above on our 2014 the deadbolt holes were not deep enough so unfortunately some models you need to drill into the wall stud.
We also had some major alignment issues with our doors unlocking and rubbing at the top. RW had to replace both complete doors in 2015. Not an issue since.
