Dually tire help

Need some information from you that have Dually tires on tow vehicle. I just purchased a new Dually and want to be able to air up rear tires easier than what I am able to now. Has anyone put valve stem extensions on? Am concerned with wheel balance if add extension. So, what have you done to make checking tires and adding air easier? Thanks for any assistance you can give. Can't help as I'm running a TPMS and don't think the sensors would like extensions.
But I do feel your pain reaching the valve of those inner duals.

We had the extensions on our MH we just sold. It had 20" tires on it and was a pain to get to the inside rims. They worked great and never a problem. These were the breaded stainless kind with a small clip to attach to simulators so stayed straight. Came from the factory with them. It's possible they will work with the TPM's with the bracket but never tried.

I have an 08 GMC with the plastic wheel covers. After switching to metal valve stems, I used 3" extensions for a couple of years. For me, the balance was never a problem. I now have the TST 507 TPMS with flow thru sensors. I no longer need the extensions. I do have to remove the wheel covers for access. Your truck I think, should have the aluminum wheels the have better access to the valves.

Bruce, I've got the sensors also & still a PITA, there are several times I've had to have the DW put them back on as her hands are much smaller. I'd think if you have the metal stems the extensions wouldn't hurt a thing.

Thanks Danny. Do you run sensors on all four rear tires as well as the front?

I just had a set of Michelins LTZ's installed on my 2014 Ram 3500 DRW, I tried to get Discount Tire to replace the inside valve stems (rubber) with some longer, metal stems. They refused, because of the factory TPMS. So, for now, I'm stuck with the little short plastic extensions on the inside duals. The outside are metal.

Let us know how you like the Michelins. I'm going to have to replace at least the 4 on the rear in the next 3-4k miles. A number of the Ford Duallys have had "issues" with the Michelins as far as tracking and a general "wandering" in the lane. I've always had Michelins on my trucks but the last truck I had problems with them and I'm just a bit gunshy.

Leaning towards Firestone Transport HT. Really good reviews and priced right.

I'm very happy with my Firestone HTs. When did OEM installed TPMS come to duallys? My 08 doesn't have them and weren't required.

I had Michelin LTX M/S2 on my 2008 Dodge DRW and loved them. They are softer so don't last as long but grip great in all weather.

I always ran Michelins,so I put them on the "Beast" which I regretted.....I never could get those tire to balance right. I'll be buying a set of tires for Ginny's Expedition very soon but they wont be Michelins.

Other than the fact that at 38k miles they are pretty much worn out, the Generals on the truck OEM aren't bad.

Have you considered GENERAL TIRES! Good choice and work very well on my Dodge RAM 3500!

So far, I'm happy with the Michelins. I put them on just before we left this summer and headed out west, (from Michigan). Put about 7,000 miles on without any problems. Balanced well, no wandering or anything. My Ram 3500 has TPMS, but because it's a one-ton, there is no warning, you have to click through the menu and check air pressure yourself.

I see you have a 2014 RAM 3500!

Have you had your front end alignment checked?

I have a 2013 Ram 3500 and my alignment from the factory was 2 inches off on the Tow In! Causing my passenger front tire to wear badly.

The Company that did my alignment said it was normal for all RAMs coming from the factory with this problem.

At about 25000 miles I was getting a bad shimmy that alerted me to the problem. So, I had the tires rotated and balanced and all is well now.

Just a thought for you to consider!

I have noticed any handling issues, but the original tires did have some odd wear on the right front. I'll have to get the front end aligned, thanks!

I just put on a full set of Goodyear Wrangler Adventurers w/Kevlar on ours. The Coopers were terrible for steering tires, would wear funny then give really bad shimmies in sweeping curves. So glad to get back to GY.

Wife ate through P series Michelins in 20,000 miles on her Expedition. Not unusual wear, they just plain wore out! Went to Dunlop and the ride was rougher but they lasted.... I don't know how long they lasted as we sold it with 95,000 miles on it, so just short of forever.
