I will also be very interested in this...

My 211 lives in a drawer that I drilled holes in the back of for the coax and power cable to go through. I can not believe that this particular Redwood (31sl with the pop-up TV) does not have a cabinet for the electronics i.e. Sat receiver.

I tried attaching a cheap Best Buy extender to the front of the TV and attaching it in front of the little window on the 211 but no joy. Maybe I need a more expensive solution. The problem appears to be getting the attachment aimed correctly for the window.

So far I gave up and open the drawer and stand the 211 up on it's end so it can see the remote.

There has to be a better solution. Hope someone answers you soon.

I am using the Aketek IR hidden system. So far so good and the range is good. Using it on the bedroom receiver which is in the side cabinet. Got it on Amazon.

Jim,
I just learned about that today. I had been looking at the non-dish version on amazon and from the reviews it sounds like it works on the 211z, however there were a lot of reviews that said the battery charge procedure resulted in some overheat, sparks, and meltdown which didn't sound good. I need to look into it further, as it sounds like it will work.

Story of my life, but we have a HDMI switcher that sends HD signals anywhere in the coach, and it has IR extenders for all devices, but the only receiver dish makes that it won't work on is the V211z - Uhg. I called the company today and they offered to update my system free if I send I to them so I may try that.

Skip, that looks like a nice resolve for cabinet issues! As I have two locations I want it to communicate with, I'm not sure it would work.

Skip,

The Aketek looks very similar to the one I was trying from Best Buy but I could not make it work on mine.

Can I assume that you are using it on the Dish 211z? If so I am going to try it again as that is what I want. I can put the one end on the TV so that it retracts when lowering the TV and it is not visible...

Contact Dish and try to get an upgrade exhange to a "wally" receiver. It is the newest version of the 211 but has WiFi, ethernet, Bluetooth connections and the remote is RF with 200 ft range (no line of sight required). It is also smaller in size.

We have the Wally in ours. Just don't expect any help from Dish with Tech issues. The guy at Camping world knew more about it than Dish tech service. Added an external harddrive and it works as a DVR.

I actually was talked out of the Wally by Dish themselves for now - there is an issue where the Wally has to see all three satellites or it won't work and keeps trying to find them all. They are working on a software upgrade but no date when it will be ready. If you read the reviews on Amazon, you'll see a bunch of RVers have had to go back to the 211z. For us in the Rockies, we don't always get the low lying 129, so that would mess us up. By next spring I probably will upgrade if they get that fixed.

I thought you had the Hopper? I upgraded our Winegard Travel'r to be able to work with the Hopper 3. I see on dish's site they still say it won't work. We traveled all the way down the Pacific Coast to San Diego and then over to Phoenix and it has worked well. Maybe you didn't want to put the Travel'r on your DP roof?

Jim,

I did have the hopper, but started getting creative and maybe I went too far and I will regret it, but here was my thinking....

The DP actually had a POS King dome that I pushed off the roof the first month and installed my Trav'ler. We had it in CA and it worked perfect. Fiberglass roofs are really easy to remove and install equipment because its so easy to get the sealant off.

The DP has a HDMI matrix that has you put everything in a cabinet and it sends HD signals and IR wherever you want. The Hopper and Joeys worked great in the Redwood, but I really didn't need it in the DP because of the HDMI matrix and the Hopper/Joeys was costing me $120 a month when it was active, in addition to my house account.

I had Hopper 3 installed in the house this month (8 TVs) and they offered me a V211z on the acct for an RV for $7 month and I can turn it on or off whenever I want. I bit the bullet and said sure, and closed my separate RV acct. Everything was working as planned until I found out I can't get the IR to work

I'm thinking by spring the Wally will get updated to work without all 3 satellites and that I'll just replace the V211z and not get this switcher updated. Hobie 16 pointed out something I didn't realize and that is I don't have wifi either on the 211z, and I kind of liked that feature as well from the Hopper.

Another nice feature of the Wally is Bluetooth streaming. It allows for wireless connection to audio devices. I am hearing impaired and use two hearing aides. My new ones form Costco include a bluetooth streaming adapter. This allows the audio to be fed directly into my hearing aids from devices like the wally, my cell phone and computer. Works great so far.

Our Hopper 3 also has Bluetooth capability; can connect to my UE Boom wireless speaker and have music outside from the dish channels.
