As much of a gadget guy as I am, that remote system never spun me up much. I got a little nervous looking at a MH that had all the window shades controlled by it. That just sounded like trouble. However, I say that because I don't have it, but I might like it if I did.

I like the concept but only if light switches are still included. I would hate to be "dead in the water" and not be able to work anything just because of a glitch.

Yep...I'm not a fan anymore. I thought they were cool when I got one and it's been pretty much problem free. But the new ones have gotten so complex and when they don't work it's a serious problem. It's not that hard to get up to turn off a light or lower a shade. As it is, I have a remote I can put in my pocket and control my slide but I'm afraid of dropping it so it's never used either.

I designed and installed a 10 station remote control for my Montana, mainly because the switches were in terrible places. Generator start was in the bedroom closet behind the towels (seriously)!

I never felt that in the Redwood - they did a pretty nice design locating switches for convenience. I never felt like I needed a remote to operate it.

When it fails the slides won't move, NOTHING works. In theory this is supposed to be a great system but right now people are sitting in very expensive units that can't be used. I'm sure glad mine doesn't have it.

I think folks are better off not having the wondrous glowing panels and manually turning the lights off and on. Beside, a little exercise is needed by most people I see sitting around the campgrounds. Leave the technology at the office and go camping.
Putting automation into structures that are suppose to last a decade or more is never a good idea. Having no manual override is really a bad design. I have very few, if any electronic device around the house that are that old. A lot of technology is outdated after 3 years.

Eliminating manual over-rides is sloppy design at best, and more likely greedy production practice. Manufactures trade bling for functionality, and the consumer is stuck with the result. I want to buy functional reliability, but eye candy is what sells...

Looks like there's an update to the Redwood website. They have added the RW399/3991RD. Still waiting to see what will replace the 31SL.
