Comfortaire vs. Sleep Number

We are looking to purchase a replacement mattress for our 31SL. Doing research on the Comfortaire and the Sleep Number mattresses. It seems that they are almost identical except for price and the 2" foam layer that Sleep Number puts on top making it 11" thick versus 9" for Comfortaire. Is it worth the approximate $180 more for the 2" top layer? Has anyone tried both and preferred one over the other and why?

I have not tried the Comfortaire, but we do have the Sleep Number in our 31sl and have no complaints about the comfort.

Is it the RV mattress or a regular Sleep Number? Also, did you have to modify the bed for it to work?

We have a sleep number in our 38GK. We had a plywood base installed for the mattress as we have a slide in slide.

We purchased the queen sleep# with the extra pillow top layer. I ended up putting an additional 4 " memory foam on top as it felt to much like an air mattress. I like it and the DW hates it. I keep my side firm and she likes her side soft. The problem with the queen is the airbags are to narrow unless both sides are set close to the same firmness. I keep falling of mine into the soft side. It would be a great bed in a king model

We had the same issues as Shane and we had the King sleep# residential. I tossed it out and went to a Memory foam mattress and like it much better.

Our last SOB had a king bed & we found a 10" memory foam on a website (wish I could remember what it was) & it was the best mattress either of us has ever slept on & you could buy 5 of them for what the Sleep Number cost, if I recall it was $400 shipped. We have a queen in the RW or we would have moved that mattress.

We're considering changing our queen out to a king (removing the side tables of course), and wondering if anyone has done that already. We have a cal king sleep number at home and sleeping on the queen sometimes seems like a postage stamp.

I have looked at both the Sleep Number and the Comfortaire.

The pricing for a RV King that I have found is about $1000 for the Comfortaire, have not seen recent pricing on the Sleep Number RV King but it is about 2 to 3 inches taller than the Comfortaire.

On a FL Model the bedroom has opposing slides so the bed has to fit under the Shirt Closet area when the slides come in, which means too tall of a mattress is a problem.
Not sure if I can get a 12 Inch Tall Mattress under the shirt closet.

Comfortaire was bought by Select Comfort (makers of Sleep Number) a few years ago.

Our Sleep Number is now in it's third RV. usually one of the first things moved. We like our Sleep Number, but they have new and improved models out now, but there are several other MFRs out there that make similar types of mattresses.
I re-did the base for our Sleep Number, makeing the base wider to support the sides, and increased the length by pulling the slide in and measuring how far I could go without hitting the dresser drawers.

Did you have a King mattress and had to widen the queen frame in the RV. I have the queen bed in the 31SL. Do you think the queen short RV Sleep number will fit that frame or will I have to make the base wider for support?

Steve and Char cut their bed frame down to support a thicker mattress

Rick, we started with the OEM King and just moved our Sleep Number over onto the OEM frame, but is wasn't wide enough to really support the edges of the Sleep Number (approx 4 to 6 inches per side). Removed the top piece of plywood and installed new thicker and better quality with support all the way to the outer edges of the Sleep Number. Also lengthen it to supply more support to the end (notched it to fit with max length without hitting a dresser drawers.

Our sleep number is a king rv. I did not make any modifications to our european wood slats. The pillow top on the rv mattress is not as plush as our old stick and brick king sleep number. That being said it is not a $3600 mattress.

I didn't know you could buy a 31SL with a King bed. Was that an upgrade from the factory? Have you had any problems by just using the European slats for a frame?
