Well, I put our fully loaded 36RL and our F450 on the Cat Scales in Fredricksburg, VA. Together, they came in at 25,350 pounds. Then after we got back home, had to make a dump run where they weigh your vehicle coming and going. Turned out the F450 weighed 9440 lbs. Which means the 36RL weighs 15860 pounds. It's a good feeling knowing we are well within our Reese 18K hitch. Has anyone else had theirs weighed?Edited by: Adamsvr

We had our setup weighed by SmartWeigh an Escapees Rally this spring and learned we were comfortably within our weight limits. I was fairly sure I was ok weight wise but "knowing" is a much better feeling, especially when you're a full time traveler.

BTW...We traveled through a section of Maryland today and the weigh station sign read "ALL vehicles over 5 tons are required to stop". I was going to pull through as directed but the station was closed. When I got to our campsite I checked the Maryland DOT website which states that:
"All vehicles with a gross vehicle weight or gross vehicle weight rating of greater than 10,000 pounds must stop at open weigh stations. Only vehicles that are operating in commerce will be subject to a safety inspection".

I wonder how strictly this is enforced and how soon before more states start requiring RVs to go through open weigh stations. Good to know I would have been alright weight wise.

How much does your 36RL weigh unloaded? The reason I ask is that you are within 140 lbs. of GVWR for it. We have been looking at these, and I was wondering about the CCC.

It's my understanding that states are going to start going after RV's because of so many of them being over loaded or loaded wrong. In Illinois the DOT is already starting to crack down on duallys that aren't licensed heavy enough.

There was a serious accident that killed a few people involving a cargo trailer that didn't have enough weight on the tongue. Another accident that involved a motor-home that flipped over that they found was overloaded

For a F450 Dually, Ford specs say that it's GCWR is 33000 lbs and it's maximun loaded fifth wheel trailer weight is 24500 lbs. That leaves us plenty of margin.

(Edit) Our 36RL weighed 13150 empty not including the Onan Gen or the Washer/Dryer combo.Edited by: Adamsvr

Ours weighs just over 14K. That includes the washer and dryer and several items, such as a power washer, compressor and misc items I the trailer. It is a 36RL. We have a GMC 2500HD Duramax. We figure neither one of us can gain any weight.

If that's true about Maryland and Gross over 10K, I would have to stop running solo as my 3500 is registered for 13K gross, think I would look out of place inbetween all those semi's

If you want to tow one of these safely you pretty much really need a 1 ton dually. Our RL left the factory at 13700, and they forgot to install our combo washer/dryer, so that's another 150 Lbs, plus80 Lbs of propane, and approx 100 Lbs for the Sat Dish, so our dry weight is about 14000 Lbs before we even put in any paper plates. We're setup for long term living in the rig so we travel heavy (we're at gross or maybe a little over), but per the scales we're not over on the axles and we're putting 3900 Lbs on the back of the TV.
So bottom line, work the numbers using the gross of the Redwood and between 20% to 25% for pin weight.
