Broken Window

I just replaced the street-side rear window in a 2015 38RL. I can't figure out how it got broken, but the tempered outer layer of glass was uniformly "crazed" all over and was still in place when I discovered it. We covered it in a film that stuck to the glass, but it eventually all let loose. It almost looks like it might have got too warm. No damage to the inner pane, so the unit was drivable. Tom Johnson RV in Charlotte did the repair and did a good job. $800.92! The window itself is over $600. They are not a RW dealer, so they took a while to get the replacement.

I ran into a fellow RW a few months ago that had a blown out outer layer. He doesn't know what happened either. Just woke up to it one day.

Could this have happened by washing your windows using cold water from a hose on a very sunny day?

Interesting idea. I had not washed the windows for some time, since the RV was being stored in an area without water. I did have this happen in an office building I had. It had very darkly tinted windows that occasionally shattered in direct afternoon sun. These windows aren't that dark, but I'm stumped.

One of mine fogged up and Redwood replaced it free. Go figure.

A couple of years ago this happened to another Redwood and the company covered it. I believe it was on an early 2013 model year just before the first rally.
