Bearing Caps Breaking

Hello, I ran into a problem with my new Redwood 5th wheel and I was wondering if anyone else had any issue with. On returning from our 3 trip I noticed that I had lost the dust cover on the wheel hub, I then found my bearing cap rattling around inside the wheel hub, upon removing the wheel I found the threads had broken off from the plastic cap and now grease was coating the inside of my wheel hub, upon inspecting all 4 tires I found the same result, with one wheel hub covered in grease ( which I suspect is a blown rear grease seal ) keep in mind this unit has less then 600 road miles on it ! Anyway unit is now at the dealers for repair, call me old fashioned but I like metal for my bearing caps, has anyone had issue with plastic caps ? Like to hear any and all advice, Thank you

poor quality plastic??? is the cap brittle? i agree I have never had a metal cap blow apart. Makes me question what I got with my Kodiac disk brakes , I didnt pay attension when they where putting the wheels back on when I was getting out of MorRyde in the spring.

Good thing is plastic will not damage the bearings even if there is any fine chunks in there still, its so soft it will just push it around and maybe grinded it up.

They had a bad batch of those caps approx 4 years ago, because I had all four of mine come apart like that. Got replacements from MORryde and no issues since.
So it sounds like the MFR messed up again.

Thank you for the info, I was thinking it had to be some defect or a bad case of over torqueing.

I just had 2 of my Morryde installed caps from June of this year break like that..I was thinking that I was breaking them as I was removing the wheel and tire assembly.. Not as strong as I once was, once that assembly got to a certain point, it would just drop, taking anything with it.

Had the same cap breakage, problem, dealer would not replace them. Are the clear ones available from E trailer any better? Thanks

Not sure about the clear ones being better, been looking for metal ones and had no luck in that search, rig at dealers being repaired for now, probably will have the polycarbonates put back on.

Sourced the same clear plastic caps as linked above from Trail Tex / BigTex Trailers locally in Odessa today. $12 for the cap only as I can reuse the o-rings and the rubber plug.

Yep, had the same issue with my 2019 3951 WB. Replaced all with the clear plastic grease covers. Hand tightened only, we will see what happens. Do a search, I found the two pack for $30 on the internet.

I just replaced 3 of the polymer caps on my hubs that were broken, going to try leaving the Aluminum Rims Center Caps off, the polymer caps should not get as hot as being inside the rims center caps.
I have seen quite a few 5th Wheels (mainly Mobile Suites) with the Rims Center caps removed when running the oil bath type hubs with the polymer screw on caps.
