It does come out but the factory got a bit crazy with the silicone so be patient when working on it. We have the FL and that back cap was absolutely horrible to get the wires from the frame to the upper side of the rear window but finally got it after taking out some of the parking lights. There is about 5 foot of my wire snake forever lost in the rear cap but the job is done.
