We are getting ready to order a 2013 36FB (with gen & w/d). We will be pulling it with a 2011 F450. Any input on the 8000K axle?

Thx,

JJ

Even fully loaded your coach is within the specs for the standard 7K axles, but the higher rated 8K gives a better factor of safety and I believe comfort level that you are not over stressing the running gear.

Had we ordered from the factory I would have gone with the 8K axles, G rated tires and disc brakes. The standard equipment is acceptable, but where possible I prefer not to be so close to max limits. It is easy and cost effective for youto upgrade now, but in my case it will bevery expensive.

Just my opinion, which I should preface is based onhaving workedin an industry that is highly risk adverse.

If we had the option we would have upgraded to the 8Kaxels. We upgraded, after purchase to new wheels (3750lbs carrying capacity each) and 14 ply steel belted tires (got rid of the Marathons). Fully concur with Oriana's comments regarding upgrade and safety.

Go with the 8k and disc brake it is well worth it .
I believe that these unit are to heavy for 7 k axles
The brakes on 7 k axles with drum brakes are not good enough to stop you in an emergency.
I have a unit with 7 k and drum brake and an looking to change them to 8 k and disc brakes cost with g rated tires
Tire $1300.00
Axles with disc brake $ 4000.00 plus

I agree with everyone else, 8k axles, G rated tires and Disk brakes. I would also like to add the Tri-Glide hitch is a must. I'm ordering one today and wish I hadn't let the dealership talk me out of it when I ordered the trailer.

I Just might want to check with the factory to see if you upgrade how it will affect your gvwr rating, if it increases it as does the g rated tires, I would definitely do it.

Even if it does not increase gvw get them for peace of mind. Tire safety alone is worth it.
I had disc brakes before and when I ordered my trailer they did not have the option.
Almost did not order the trailer because of disc brake.
But them I let it go and ordered it without disc brake.
And now I am sorry should of waited or purchased something else.

How long ago did you get your trailer? I ordered mine in Jan. of 2012 and they had disk brakes as an option then.

I ordered my 36RL in July 2011. The disk brakes were not listed in the options at the time, but, I asked about them and was able to get them.

One more question - we have the air ride on the truck. We've heard that the Trail-Air Pin Box makes for a rough ride when combined with that. What's that about - opinions?

I asked Mr Kelderman (world renown for his air ride) about this and he said that this is corrected by having the bags adjusted right and having good shocks.

We upgrated to the G rated wheels/tires. I looked at GY web site and it seems they are really LT?

No the tire are not LT (light truck). these are trailer tires and designed to meet the rigors of being towed and withstand the sun rays.

You're right! My tires say G614 RST on them and they are LTs which I always thought meant light truck.
