Naw - the telephone was one of the really strange slang terms - we used to call the telephone the "Blower" . No idea where it originated.

<LOL> Blower was the Brits term for how they communicated aboard ship. Not sure of the exact terminology. It was used on US ships earlier for the 1MC devices.

This past winter I was next to a couple from Ontario, there were several times he would say something...give me a look and chuckle... you yanks call it ... one of my favorites was hydro...electricity, Eh!!

Affirmative we used it on British ships. It is slang for telephone.
