8K Axles

When you change to 8K I would assume they change the springs as well? Where to have it done and average cost with disc brakes?

I am pretty convinced that the Mor/Ryde system is the way to go. Great discussion about it here: http://www.redwoodowners.com/forums/...ght=Mor%2FRyde
I don't know what it costs to simply upgrade just the axles to 8K, but we are going to get the ducks together to do the whole shootin' match. We don't want to be rolling down the road over the next ?? years waiting for the suspension to break somewhere. That's kind of how I feel now, after reading what others have encountered... cracks etc. PLUS I like the idea of having a margin of unused capacity for safety. Right now, I have to discipline myself about everything I bring on board because of the axles, where we have plenty of capacity in the truck's towing capacity and everything else. We are going to get Mor/Ryde.

Theresa - the 8k suspension without the disc brakes is about $3100.00. Takes them 2 days to do it and you can stay there the night before with hookups and they give you a key to the shop so that you can stay in the coach the night it's between service days.
We are stopping there next Friday to have a little "tweeking" done. Talking to Gary at MorRyde we've come to the conclusion that the springs we have currently are a bit too heavy. They are going to change springs, double check the alignment with the laser system and then we are going to put about 300 miles on the coach over the weekend going up to michigan before the Rally to make sure the changes work.

Typically during the winter they offer a 10percent discount from about thanksgiving till march.

Thanks Vaughan!! I sure appreciate it. We actually do most of our travelling in the fall/winter time due to Todd's job being really busy during the summer. VERY thought provoking. Our 7K suspension is definitely the "weak link" in our set up and so has drawn my attention. I'm a little OCD (Over Cautious Disorder) ;-) Thanks again!

Only thing I have left to do within a year or so. I travel with all tanks empty. I am probable 13,500 lbs or less. A good bit of the weight of the Redwood is on the Ford F450 so I am well under the 7K per axle.

We will have out RW weighted next spring at the RV Dreams Rally in NC, they work with the RVSEF (RV Safety Foundation) and have individual scales, we get weight of each wheel / axle on both the Truck and 5er.

It will be interesting to see what our actual weight and pin weight will be.

Another thing I do not understand is the RW Website Literature shows our 38FL with a GVW of 16,500 lbs. but our label on the left front side shows 16,200 lbs.

I am afraid we are going to be a little overweight when we get weighted.

Good Idea, I worked with State Troopers before I retired from State Buildings. They have Portable scales.

We had the MorRyde suspension installed in May 2014 on our 2012 36FL. MorRyde placed 8k axels and disc brakes and a slide out storage tray, cost was $6400. Outstanding difference in the ride of the coach. Highly recommend MorRyde suspension.

Bit of a difference $3100 & $6400, don't ya think. We are debating the upgrade. I am fairly sold it is the only way to go.

Mine was $6100 with the Kodiak brakes .. Col John did a slide out tray for the storage compartment also. Having the disc brakes now, I would never go back. I've made stops since the install that I would have never made with the drums.
Difference in towing , especially handling and general "feel" is amazing. I literally have to remember coach is behind me.

Lippert Suspension, do you have the thin or 1/2" brackets on the 7K axles.

As I mentioned on the Alaska thread, we just returned from a trip up North and other than shaking loose a few screws we had no problems and no broken dishes or anything.
We had the 8K Mor/ryde IS installed last spring along with the upgrade to 17.5 H tires and wheels. We already had the disk brakes, as we had done that upgrade to our previous Montana and will never tow anything without them.
I just wish Redwood would wise up and add the IS as an option, as many of the other Higher end units are rolling into Mor/ryde for the upgrade before delivery to dealer/new owners.

We are going to try and do the Mor/ryde IS in the first part of next year and stay there while they do it. Just letting people know how the shackles wear. The come with the 1/4" not 1/2 " yhick.

The $3100 figure is for suspension without disc brakes. Our slide in storage tray was $420 and we had an upgraded brake controller installed as well. They can give you a real close estimate over the phone based on your requirements.
